Nathan was born in 1864. [1]
He was living in Chelsea as a shoemaker at the time of his marriage to Rachel Anderson in 1886 [2]
Their children included:
The 1900 Census shows the couple and their first three children living in a rented home at 560 East 8th Street, South Boston, a 3 minute walk from their eventual home at 378 K Street. Nathan was shown as a "Starter for the Elevated RR"[3]
The 1910 census shows the couple and four of their five children living in a rented home at 378 K Street, Abbie having been married in February of that year. Nathan is listed as a "Station Master for the Elevated", and their daughter Rachel as a "Department Store Salesperson".[4]
The 1920 census shows them still living in the rented house at 378 K Street. The son Nathan Curtis was married in 1919 and had moved out , but Daugher Rachel and ther husband John Farrell, a policeman, had moved in. Additionally, Mrs. Rachel Trask's sister Amelia Anderson, a dressmaker in her own shop, was living with them. [5]
The 1930 Census still shows them living in the rented house at 378 K Street. Nathan Curtis moved back in with his daughter Catherine Mildred, age 9. Nathan the elder is now shown as a Clerk for a Stock Broker, Warren as a Chauffeur for (looks like "Cement Stone"?), Katherine the elder as a Clerk in Shoe Manufacturing, Nathan, the younger, as a clerk in "Cotton Waste" and John still as a policeman.[6]
The 1940 census shows the same people still living in the rented house at 378 K Street, except that John Farrell is no longer listed. I have not yet discovered a date of death. [7]
In 1945, my mother Rachael Josephine Bartlett and her three children rented half a duplex house on Pleasant Street, Merrimacport, MA from the Trask family. They had used the house as a country retreat from Boston. The only members of the family I ever knew were Warren, who married my mother in 1958, his brother Curtis (Trask-1470), Curtis' daughter Mildred (Trask-1471) and Warren's Aunt "Angie", the aforementioned Amelia Anderson. I believe at that time they owned the K Street property. All four were still alive when Warren obtained sole title to half of the Merrimacport Duplex, which eventually became known as 21 South Pleasant Street, while the other three retained title to the K Street house and the other half of the Pleasant Street house. Angie died first, and then Curtis, leaving Mildred as sole owner of the K Street house and 19 South Pleasant Street. I still have a Marble top end-table which came from Warren's family and a large flat iron Angie used in her dressmaking shop.
