Major James Lawrence Trask was born in Hampden County, Massachusetts. He moved to Wilkinson County, Mississippi and lived on the Mount Pleasant Plantation.[1]
The 1850 census notes James at age 69, a planter, living by himself.[2]
Death
James L. Trask died in 1855.[1] He is buried in the Ventress Cemetery, Wilkinson County, Mississippi.[3]
Slaves
James L. Trask was a large slave owner. His 1855 probate inventory named and valued a large number of enslaved persons.[4]
Among the enslaved were:
One hundred and forty at Mount Pleasant Plantation.
Nicka Sewell-Smith has studied the Trask 250 in depth.[5] There is an 1852 slave list located at the Mississippi Dept of Archives and History.
