Death, 2nd marriage, & parents: "1696, 1, 15."Abraham Whitacar (sic) and Sarah my wife, formerly Sarah Archer, daughter to Henry Trask late of Salem in ye county of Essex in New England,"... Abraham's second marriage took place at Lynn, and this wife was also killed by the Indians at Haverhill; with one or two of his children,... 1704, 2, 8. An attack was made on Joseph Bradley's house at Haverhill, only one man being on guard there at the time, viz. Joseph Johnson. He was killed, together with several women and children; while one Indian was killed by Mrs. Bradley, who threw hot boiling soap upon him; the women being engaged at the time of the attack in preparing their soap. There were six Indians engaged in the attack; and thirteen whites were killed, three escaped and five were off at their labor; but taken by surprise the feeble little garrison of one sentinel and a few brave women, could poorly cope with the savages. Abraham Whitaker's wife was among the killed..... 1705, 3, 6. "At the motion of Captain Samuel Ayer, voted that the present selectmen on the Town's cost, pay Doctor Bradstreet for what he did for Abraham Whitaker's children, towards their cure; and also to pay John Stephens, Sen., for digging a grave for some of the said Whitaker's family, which were killed by the Indians." This record from the town's book, shows how hardly this family had fared.... 1704, 2, 8. An account has been already given of the massacre of this date at Haverhill. In corroboration of the published account, the following statement made by Ede Whitaker to his son William, may be found interesting. This statement was made 1841, 9, 2/ Ede says, 'My grandfather was at that time 8 years old. When the Indians rushed into the fort, he attempted to escape up stairs by means of a ladder, but one of the savages seeing him, pulled him back with a rake, and gave him a severe blow on the head with his tomahawk, which laid him senseless, and which they supposed killed him; before this, however, he saw the Indians kill and scalp his mother....'"
