Miranda Freelove Trask, the first child of George and Susan M. (Hardy) Trask, was born 6 Nov 1869 at Uxbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA.[1] [2]
She had three full siblings, namely: Infant Trask, George William, and Nellie and four maternal half siblings: namely John Collicutt, Anna Collicott, Phillip Collicott and William Collicott. There may be more siblings since in the 1900 census, her mother claims to have had 12 children. [3] She appears in the 1870 census with her family in Uxbridge. [4]
She moved with her family to the nearby town of Mendon and attended Schoolhouse #5 from age 5 in 1876 to age 14 in 1884. [5]
She appeared on the census of 16 June 1880 in the home of her parents at Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts.[6]
When she was 15, she married Embert Reuben "Bert" Greene on 25 Dec 1884 in Milford, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA although she claimed to be 16 in the marriage record. [2]
Miranda died on 5 March 1893 at Uxbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts at the age of 23 [1] and may be buried at Plot: Section 5, Prospect Hill Cemetery, Uxbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts [see Research Notes]. Her cause of death was listed as "Bright's Disease" on her death certificate [7] but her granddaughter, Mabel Payne claimed that she died in childbirth.
Embert Reuben "Bert" Greene and Miranda Freelove Trask had the following children:
Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts
There are two death registers for 1893 for the town of Uxbridge. Most of the information for Miranda is identical in the two registers with these exceptions:
Married(1), Buried: Ditto (2), Occupation: At Home, Rec'd by Secretary's Office Feb 1 1894 Divorced, Place of Burial: Uxbridge, Occupation: Seamstress, Date of Record: Jun 26/93
(1) It is unclear whether she was married or divorced at the time of her death. A search of the divorce records for Worcester County has not turned up a divorce proceeding for her. When her husband remarried three years later, he indicated that it was his second marriage but not whether he was a widower or a divorcee.
(2) There is one column for "Residence, Place of Death, Place of Burial" on one of the Uxbridge death registers. It appears that the entry in the this column for Miranda, a ditto mark, was intended to be dittoing "Uxbridge" from line 11 all the way to the end of the sheet. But later, another hand entered "Burial Upton" on line 12 which is just above Miranda's line making it appear that everyone from line 12 to line 16 was buried in Upton. I think the intention was to indicate that all these people resided, died and were buried in Uxbridge except for the person on line 12 where the separate notation was made.
According to the other Uxbridge death register, she was buried in Uxbridge. There are many small family cemeteries in Uxbridge. But only two large cemeteries: Prospect HIll Cemetery and St. Mary Parish Cemetery. Since she was not catholic, she is probably not in St. Mary's. FindAGrave has her listed in Prospect Hill Cemetery in section 5 under the name Freelove Trask but with no marker. This cemetery was established in 1795. At this time, her grave has not yet been located.
