Biography

George Edward Travers was born in either London, or Birmingham in about 1887.

He was a professional footballer, whose career ran from 1906 until 1931, and he was a member of the Barnsley team when they won the FA Cup in 1912.

George married Mary Anne Watson in Solihull district in 1908 ^[1], and their son George William Travers was born in Aston district in 1909 ^[2]

In the 1911 census George (age 25), Athelete, was the married boarder of Charles Green at 2 Grove Street Barnsley, Barnsley, Yorkshire-West Riding, England.^[3]

In 1915, George enlisted into the Army Service Corps (Mechanical Transport), his attestation papers show he was married in Sparkhill on 25 May 1908 , he was a motor mechanic by trade, and he was living in Manchester at the time. ^[4]

George and his family travelled to New Zealand in 1923 ^[5], but as his Wikipedia entry shows that he was still playing football in England until 1931, then George must have returned to England.

George died on 6 December 1943 in Palmerston North City, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand. His grave stone shows he was 58 years old. ^{[6] [7]}
