Biography

William Travers was born on 7 Nov 1794 in St. Augustine, Spanish East Florida.

First Marriage

The schooner, Florida, of New Haven, CT, sailed from St. Augustine, FL 28 Feb 1825 for Havana, Cuba. On 3 Mar 1825, lat. 25 45N, near the coast of Florida, was upset in a squall. 21 passengers and 1 crew were drowned. The wife, mother, and two children of William Travers drowned. William Travers was among those saved. [1]

Military

An Act organizing a militia, 3 Sep 1822, James Monroe, President: William Travers of St. Augustine was among those commissioned. [2]
Second Brigade of Militia, St. Augustine, Territory of East Florida, Aid-de-Camp, reported 17 July 1823 by J.M. Hernandez, Gen. 1st Brigade of Florida. [3]
7 Jul 1825, Joseph M. Hernandez, through Aid-de-Camp William Travers, John Brevard was ordered to organize 4th Brigade of Florida Militia. [4]
2 Dec 1829. Publishes an Order as Aid-de-Camp. [5]
