Samuel Travis was the ruin of his father, Cap. John Travis.
After a profitable 1st trading trip to Havanna, Samuel and his father invested everything for a second trip. The goods sold for an excellent profit again. But Samuel ran afoul off New Orleans gamblers and lost everything. He dared not return and was never seen by the family again.
His father lost the farm and had to start over, homesteading in Ohio.
