Peter Travis was christened on 10 Dec 1835 at St Helens Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. He was the son of John and Alice Travis (or Traverse). His father's occupation was recorded as bricklayer, and the family's address as Eccleston.
By June 6th 1841, they were living near the toll gate in Eccleston. John was a bricklayer.
By March 30th 1851, they were still in Eccleston, and John was still a bricklayer. Peter, now 15, was working as an agricultural labourer.
