Biography

Mary Jane was born on Feb 3, 1860 in Jersey county, Illinois.[1] She was the daughter of Henry and Matilda (White) Travis.[2] In the 1860 census, she was listed with her parents living in Mississippi Township, Jersey, Illinois.[3] In 1865, the family moved to Ricks Township, Christian, Illinois.[4] where they were listed in the 1870 census.[5] On Jun 21, 1876, she married Stephen G White in Christian county, Illinois.[6] The marriage apparently ended in divorce. In the 1880 census, Mary and her daughter Clara, were listed in the household of her brother, Oscar Travis in Lincoln, Neosho, Kansas.[7] In 1881, Mary married James Caldwell in Christian county, Illinois.[8] The couple were listed in the 1900 census living in Pleasant Mound, Bond, Illinois.[9] Sometime after the 1900 census, the family moved to Greenville, Bond, Illinois where Mary’s husband James, died in 1909.[10] Mary remained in Greenville joined by her daughter Edna and grandson, Ross White.[11][12] Mary died on Jan 16, 1925 and was buried in the Montrose Cemetery in Greenville.[1][13]
