Biography

John was born in Livingston County, Illinois on 11 Apr 1846. He was the son of John Travis and Sarah Spence. He married Elizabeth Ann Hess on 3 Jul 1868. They had nine children. Around 1878, the family relocated to Kansas. Elizabeth died in 1924. John did not remarry. He passed away in Fort Scott, Kansas on 22 Dec 1935. He is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Fort Scott.
