Biography

Alexander Jackson Travis was born about Nov 1830 in Jefferson County, Ohio. He was the son of William Travis and Alice (unknown) Travis.^[1] At the time of the 1850 Census, the family was living in Green Township, Mahoning County, Ohio. His father worked there as a farmer. He was working as a school teacher.^[2]

He married Elizabeth Sarah Lamison on 13 Mar 1859 in Logan County, Ohio.^[3] Together they had at least the following children:^[4][5][6][7]

2. Melvin M. Travis (~1864)
3. Frank Menna Travis (~1867 - 09 Jan 1948)
4. Charles Harold Travis (~1870)

7. Harry Melvore Travis (1878 - 1965)

By the time of the 1870 Census, the family was living in German Township, Allen County, Ohio. He was working there as a physician. A thirteen year old girl, Mary M. Baxter, lived in their household as a domestic servant.^[4]

His wife passed away before 1880. At the time of the 1880 Census he was living in Spencerville, Allen County, Ohio. He continued to work as a physician.^[8]
