Alexander Jackson Travis was born about Nov 1830 in Jefferson County, Ohio. He was the son of William Travis and Alice (unknown) Travis.[1] At the time of the 1850 Census, the family was living in Green Township, Mahoning County, Ohio. His father worked there as a farmer. He was working as a school teacher.[2]
By the time of the 1870 Census, the family was living in German Township, Allen County, Ohio. He was working there as a physician. A thirteen year old girl, Mary M. Baxter, lived in their household as a domestic servant.[4]
His wife passed away before 1880. At the time of the 1880 Census he was living in Spencerville, Allen County, Ohio. He continued to work as a physician.[8]
