Biography

According to the Treacyclann website William was born in 1766 in Dublin (this needs to be verified). The same site also has the following "15 October 1797 Wm Treacy of Leighlin Bridge in the co. of Carlow, coal merchant, and Ann Bradley of Coolbawn in the parish of Comer, spinster [Coolbaun Castlecomer Kilkenny]". This could be the date of the posting of the marriage banns as the history of that branch of the family "The Treacys An Anglo-Irish family" records this marriage in 1798. While both dates are probably accurate, again this needs to be verified.

William is most likely related to the Bellmount/Balty Treacys as he is granted a lease of land in the locality in 1810 by his probable relations Richard and Andrew Treacy of Bellmount and which borders land by another probable older relation Anne Treacy (possibly his mother).

William married Ann Bradley when she was 16 years old and they went on to have 14 children between 1799 and 1824, two of whom probably died in infancy. All the baptisms are recorded at Old Leighlin cathedral. The early records, up until December 1805, state that the family are from Wells, the Royal Oak, Co. Carlow while an 1810 deed records a lease of land at Bellmount, Co. Kilkenny places them at nearby Leighlinbridge. That same deed also states that this "Will Treacy" is "son of William Treacy".

This younger William is also probably the William Treacy recorded in the Tithe Applotment Books in 1823 on a piece of land of 17 acres in Croghtenclough, near Bellmont, shared with Patrick Butler and his probable in-law John Bradley.

William died at some point between 1826 and 1833, most likely around 1832 or 1833 as an Indented Deed of Assignment " of 1 October 1833 shows his wife Ann selling some of her husband's estate after his death.

In addition this notice which states that Eliza is the seventh daughter proves that the 14 Old Leighlin baptisms are from the same family and not two different families with the same names: MARRIED, By special license, at Belfast, on the 9th inst.by the Rev. Dr. Brain, Mr. T. H. Osborne, Proprietor and Editor Belfast Gazette, to Eliza Helena, seventh daughter of the late William Treacy, Esq. Merchant, Leighlin Bridge, County Carlow, Ireland. [1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
