Biography

Ralph A. Treat, age 84, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Heroes’ Haven in the Fayetteville VA Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born September 15, 1930 in Alco, Arkansas, the son of Isaac and Vernie Lee Treat.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Shorey Treat, his parents, a sister, Veneda Long and two brothers, John Afton Treat and Clifford Treat.

He retired from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he worked 25 years in the College of Business Administration from 1972-1997. He was associate professor of Military Science with the Army ROTC program 1969-1972 and received a Master of Science Degree in 1975.

He retired as a Lt. Colonel of the United States Army after 20 years service and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and numerous awards including the Air Medal OLC.

He was a 45-year member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville serving on numerous boards and committees. He was a long time member of the Fayetteville Lions Club. He was president of the Fayetteville Lions Club as well as District Governor 1990-1991, Council Chair of the District Governors 1991-1992, and a board member of the Lions Diabetes Awareness, Lions Mid-South Sight and Hearing, and Lions World Services for the Blind. Since retirement he also loved volunteering at the VA Hospital. His wide smile and friendly wave will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Treat; five daughters, Alena Treat (Liz Hicks) of Des Moines, Iowa, Loree Treat of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Candice Treat Murphy (Mark) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Linda Greathouse Walsh of Omaha, Nebraska and Tammy Greathouse Smith (Tom) of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two sons, Randy Treat (Debbie) of Kansas City, Missouri and Tony Treat (Janice) of Johannesburg, South Africa; a sister, Geneva Reno of Pittsburg, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, Jerah Boyd, Tabitha Murphy, Ryan Treat, Joe Moulden, Justin Moulden, Ross Murphy, Paige Murphy, Zachary Walsh, Nick Walsh, Harrison Smith, Julia Smith and Mason Smith; and eight great-grandchildren.
