Biography

This profile is part of the Treat Name Study.

Helen Louise Treat was born September 9, 1892, in Union City, Erie, Pennsylvania. Her parents were George Henry Hobart Treat and his wife, Nellie Louise Page Treat. [1]

She attended the local schools, and graduated in 1910 from Union City High School. She kept a detailed scrapbook of the various festivities, starting on Junior Day the year before. [2]

She attended Wilson college for at least one year. [3]

On September 6, 1916, she married Laurence Dwight Humes at her parents' home. [4]Her father died shortly after and they lived with her mother at least until 1920. [5]

In 1919, they had a child who died the same day and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Union City. [6]

In 1924, she and L. D. moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where they lived the rest of their lives. She wrote a journal of the move. A copy of the journal and some pictures of the trip are posted here: [1]

She developed Type 2 diabetes and spent the last few years of her life in the William and Mary nursing home in St. Pete. She died May 17, 1980. [7]
