Mary Trefry was born August 1, 1786, the daughter of Joshua Pitman Trefry II and Elizabeth Kinney of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia[1]
On December 31, 1805, she married Peleg Holmes, son of Deacon Nathaniel Holmes Ist of Yarmouth, and they had children, including:
Peleg Holmes, born December 16, 1806, who married Sarah Beckwith
Abigal Kimball Holmes, born June 30, 1808, who married Levi Lockhart[2]
Kendall Holmes, born June 26 1810, who married Mary Frost[3] and then married Sarah Elder[4], and who died in 1871[5]
Mary Holmes, born July 16, 1812, who married Robert Davison[6]
Joshua Holmes, a twin born June 16, 1814, who married Naomi Lockhart[7]
John Holmes, a twin born June 16, 1814, who died in infancy
Harriet Newell Holmes, born September 13, 1816, who married William Barker[8]
Matilda Mahala Holmes, born December 12, 1818, who married Gould Davison[9]
James, born July 1, 1822, who married Abigail Michener[10]
another child who died in infancy
Peleg was a sea captain. He and Mary moved from Yarmouth to Hantsport in 1821. In 1830, he was made Deacon, and was more generally addressed as Deacon Holmes, but he was Captain Holmes during her life.
Mary Trefry Holmes died 15 Jun 1825, in Hantsport, Nova Scotia[11].
