Biography

Lydia Trefry was born July 4, 1794, the daughter of Joshua Pitman Trefry and Elizabeth Kinnie of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia[1]

On April 4, 1811, she married Elisha Holmes, son of Deacon Nathaniel Holmes.

Around 1823, the family moved from Yarmouth to Hants County[1].

Their children included:

  1. Samuel, born January 7, 1812, who died young
  2. Lydia, born January 7, 1813, who married James Frizzle[2]
  3. George, born September 16, 1814, who died young
  4. Elizabeth Mary, born May 16, 1816, who married James Nun
  5. George, born March 13, 1818, who married Mercy Michener
  6. Elisha, born Feb 18, 1820, who married Sarah Anne Frost, and then married Matilda Lynch and third married Adeline Bill[3]
  7. John Whitman, born November 23, 1821, who married Sarah R. Bailey, daughter of Joseph, and then married Grace Anne (Holmes) Trefry, widow of Joseph Nelson Trefry[4]
  8. William, born June 24, 1824 in Hants County, who married Matilda Loomer and Jane Fielding[5]
  9. Ruth Hannah, born September 10, 1826, who married James Shields and died in 1871[6]
  10. Mercy Anne, born February 15, 1828, who married Asa Hinds[7]
  11. Abigail, born April 10, 1830, who married Daniel Dimock[8] and then married Edward Davidson[9]
  12. Harris Harding, born May 20, 1832
  13. Matilda, born November 14, 1834
  14. Joshua, born November 10, 1838, who married Emma Fox[10]

Elisha Holmes died May 21, 1870[11]

Lydia Trefry Holmes died 13 Dec 1872[12], and is buried in the Riverbank Cemetery in Hantsport[13]
