Note: The secondary source by Brown[1] erroneously gives Thomas a third wife, Elizabeth Humphrey, and gives her as the mother of the last three children based on the marriage date. This information is widely shared on the internet. There is no doubt that Elizabeth Humphrey married a man named Thomas Trefry in Marblehead on November 18, 1701[2], however the birth records for the children above are clear as to their mother (Agnes). Further, the Marblehead death records show that Mrs. Elizabeth (Humphries) Trefry died in 1730, at 84 years[3], which clearly indicates she was a contemporary of Thomas 1st, rather than Thomas 2nd.

Biography

Thomas Trefry 2nd was the son of Thomas Trefry 1st of Marblehead[4] [1]

Circa 1688 he married Sarah (Unknown) and their children included[1]:

  1. John, born June 5, 1689[5], who died young.[1]

On August 14, 1692, he married Agnes Dennis, daughter of James Dennis and Mary Charles of Marblehead[6] [7], and had children[1][8], including:

  1. Thomas, born August 7, 1694[8], who married Rebecca Wermstall on December 13, 1715
  2. Mary, born December 6, 1696[8]
  3. James, born September 5, 1698[5]
  4. Annis, born July 6, 1700[5] [9]
  5. John, born August 2, 1703[5] , who married Sarah Abbott January 9, 1724
  6. William, born May 26, 1707[8]
  7. Sarah, born February 3, 1709[8]

On the death of Agnes' grandfather, William Charles, Agnes (wife of Thomas Trefry) and her brothers James Dennis Jr and Amos Dennis inherited a half-share in a lot on the border between Marblehead and Salem. They sold their portion to Samuel Robinson on September 30, 1695[10]. The siblings also inherited a share of the Humphrey farm[11] [12]

Agnes (Dennis) Trefry died in 1749[3]

These sources don't provide a death record for Thomas Trefry 2nd.

Trefry-688 and Trefry-29 appear to represent the same person because: Same person, same wife and children (see bio). One has one child, the other has the other two. Merge also proposed for duplicate wife.

It gets crazier!  :-) Apparently, Thomas fathered James when he was age two! But amazing feats seem to run in the family. Son James apparently went on to father 8 children after his own death!  :-)

Think you need to go back to your sources on this family and see what went wrong.

Trefry-120 and Trefry-29 appear to represent the same person because:

Hi Doug,

These are both yours, so this should be an easy merge.
