Biography

Thomas Trefry was born January 19, 1778, a twin, the son of Joshua Pitman Trefry and Mary Allen of Chebogue, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. [1]

He married Martha Allen, and moved with his family from Chebogue to St. Mary's Bay, Nova Scotia, in 1812. Their children included[2]:

  1. Martha, born November 25, 1802, who married Thomas Bartlett, son of Lemuel Bartlett, and then married Stephen Nichols of Digby[3]
  2. Thomas 2nd, born November 18, 1805, who married Maria Everett of Plympton, Digby County[4] [5]
  3. Freeman, born August 9, 1809, who married Keziah Marr of St. Mary's Bay[6]
  4. Eliza, born January 5, 1811, who married Daniel Marr and moved to Ontario[7]
  5. Zilpha, born July 12, 1814, who married Dennison Harvey of Newport, Hants County[8]
  6. Sarah Jane, born June 9, 1818, a twin, who married Herber Sweet of Newport, Hants County; she was adopted by her uncle Mark after her parents death[9]
  7. Sophia, born June 9, 1818, a twin, who married Jenkins Marr of St. Mary's Bay, and then married John Clemence[10]
  8. Joshua Pitman, born November 11, 1821, who married Augusta Dennison of Canning, Kings County, and then married Jane Harvey of Newport, Hants County[11]

Thomas and Martha moved the family from Chebogue to St. Mary's Bay in 1812.

Thomas and Martha died young. The genealogy noted here explains that the three youngest children were adopted and raised by his twin brother Mark. The adoptive parents appear in some of the children's references.
