Biography
Gilbert Henry was born on 1 November 1891 at Denniston, West Coast, New Zealand[1], and his birth was registered in the first quarter of 1892 at Buller[2]. He was the son of Alfred Treseder and Jeanne Watson.
Gilbert was a wool classer living at Lower Hutt when he signed up for service in World War I[1]. He served in the Army throughout the war (Service No WWI 2/245)[3][4]. His next of kin was his father, A Treseder, living at Pretoria Street, Lower Hutt. He was a Gunner/Military in the New Zealand Field Artillery Main Body leaving towards the end of 1914 from Wellington on either the Arawa or Limerick. He returned to New Zealand from Egypt as an invalid on 5 May 1915[5].
He had a second tour of duty leaving on 27 May 1916 from Wellington on either the Willochra or Tofua[3]. He served as a Gunner/Military in the 13th Reinforcements, New Zealand Field Artillery, New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
After his return from the war, he was a wool classer living at Bellevue Road, Lower Hutt with his sister Marjorie, both being on the 1919 Hutt General Electoral Roll[6]. His parents, Alfred and Jean, and his brother Alfred and sister Elsie were still at Pretoria Street, Lower Hutt on the same Roll.
He was living in Greytown when he obtained land in December 1920 at the ballot in Napier for sections in the Crownthorpe Settlement[7]. He "drew a section of 437 acres".
Gilbert married Edna Annie Udy on 9 March 1923[8] at St Luke's Church, Greytown[9][10]. They had at least three children.
In 1925 he was a farmer living at Crownthorpe with his wife, both being listed on the Hawke´s Bay General Electoral Roll[14].
In 1938, an aircraft crashed on his farm at Crownthorpe, killing the female pilot and her passenger[15]. Gilbert testified at the inquest, stating that the "plane crashed on his property about 12 30 p.m. on April 18". This must have been a traumatic experience.
The family was still on the farm in 1957, but now their son Kenneth was also farming and their daughter Barbara was still at home[16]. By 1960 they had retired and were living at Tanner Street, Hastings, being listed on the Hastings Main Electoral Roll[17].
Gilbert died on 14 January 1965 aged 73 years[18]. He was buried in Havelock North Cemetery, Havelock North, Hastings, Plot RSA Plot 28[19]. He is commemorated on his wife's grave in Crownthorpe Cemetery, Crownthorpe, Hastings[20]. The inscription reads:
In Loving Memory of EDNA ANNIE TRESEDER
Born 17.7.1893 Died 25.11.1993 Aged 100 years.

Research Notes
His birth registration has not been found on New Zealand BDM Online which is strange seeing it is available on the earlier database available through Ancestry. Three of his siblings are listed there. (Dickson-4413 23:41, 16 April 2023 (UTC))
