Emily was born about 1865. She is the daughter of Thomas Trethewey and Maria Pascoe. [1] Her birth was registered in St Austell in the 2nd quarter of 1865. [2] She was baptised on 14 August 1865 at Trezease (sic)[3] Chapel. Her father Thomas is recorded as a mine agent. [4]

Children of the above marriage baptised at Trezaise where this Emily Alice was brought up. [6]
At the time of the 1891 Census Richard Payne and his wife Emily Alice (who is the correct age) were living next door to Thomas and Maria Trethewey in Trezaise - another point in the favour of this being the correct marriage. [7]
