George Tricker was born in 1858, [1] the son of William and Maria Tricker in the town of Stowmarket, As a 2 year old he is found in the 1861 census, living with his parents William & Maria at Gipping St, Stowmarket, Suffolk. [2]

George had met and courted a young lady that lived a mile and a half up the road in a place called Combs. Her name was Florence Diaper, and she was born in 1857 making her 12 months older than George. They married in 1878, in the 1st quarter, which means they married some time before the 31st of March of that year. His wife Florence Diaper, would most likely be called Flo or Florrie as most girls with that name very often were and are still to this day given those nicknames. [3]

In the 1881 census George and Florence have had three children, ranging in age from 3 down to a 1 month old baby girl named Kate. The census was taken at their residence which was in Cardinals Rd, Stowmarket, [4]

The next big event in their life was in 1885, the arrival of another son into the world, their second son, they named Charley.[5]

The family had shrunk at the 1901 census with both girls, Ellen & Kate off working somewhere. George was now 42 years old and had been promoted to the role of Railways Signalman, a rather important job in the control of the trains using the tracks that he was responsible for. [6]

When George joined the workforce on the Great Western Railways, his first job was as a Porter, but over his working life he worked his way up to the position of Signalman. He stayed in this job until his working life ceased. His job was not the only thing that changed though, so did their residence, again. They had moved to 12 Childers Street in Stowmarket. He never seemed to travel far from home during his life. Like most people of the time his life revolved around his family and his work. George died in the same place and same time as his wife Florence, in the June Quarter of 1941 at Gipping, Suffolk, [7]
