Notes

The following is taken from a since discontinued posting by Herman Tripp.

SEVENTH GENERATION 569. Nicholas TRIPP was born about 1732 in SEE NOTES (2N). There is no proof Nicholas Connected to the Rhode Island Tripps at this point but, It would be a good place for the two families to connect the Nicholas in North Carolina, and Nicholas Gardner in the Rhode Island Tripp family. Also he would of had a brother Caleb if he was in this family. Maybe that is the Caleb that showed up in Pitt, County, North Carolina. I researched each of 25 Nicholas names in the computer on May 25, 1992. Only two were even close to being at the right time and place. Nicholas Daw was about the same age as John Tripp, but there was no connection that we know of until Robert Tripp married Grace Daw in abt 1784. That is 25 years after Nicholas Tripp shows up buying land in Orange County, North Carolina. The Nicholas Gardner connected with the Tripps, when his daughter Mary, married Peleg Tripp on June 28, 1728. Therefore any connection between Nicolas Tripp of North Carolina and the Rhode Island Tripps will remain in doubt until someone comes along with the answer. Dortha Tripp of Virginia has some feeling toward a possibility that Nicholas came from Virginia. If that were the case the Nicholas Tripps and the John Tripps would have been connected back in England sometime. We will keep looking and Herman William Tripp--Remembering...... According to records in Orange County North Carolina Nicholas Tripp purchased land in Orange County in ( Accoding to Dale Thompson Nicholas bought 640 acres of land from George Williams of Orange County, North Carolina. This purchase took place after May 2, 1753 which is when George first purchased the land ( Register of Deeds Office of Orange County, North Carolina 1752-1768, 1793 ). then purchased 100 acres of land in 1759. This area later became Craven County. Nicholas Tripp became overseer of roads in Orange County, North Carolina in 1765. He was listed on the tax records of Orange County in 1770 and 1779. He was exempt from poll tax in 1785. John Tripp, probably son of Nicholas was on the tax list of Orange County in 1790. John and Ann Tripp sold land inherited from Nicholas in 1790. This land was 100 acres in Chatham County formerly part of Orange County. Herman William Tripp--Remembering that we still do not know where Nicholas Tripp came from.[2]
