Sir John Trevilian, of Nettlecombe Court

Preferred spelling of the family name is Trevelyan. The following spellings are also found in primary records: Trevellyan, Trevallion, Trevillion, Trevillian, Trivilian, Trivillian, Trivillion, Trevilyan, Trevelian^[1]

The Geni site reports that he was born October 31, 1556 at Nettlecombe Court, Somerset, England ^[1] However, if he married in 1561, he would have been aged 5 at the time. Marriage in 1561 at the age of 21 would suggest an earlier birth year, say, 1540.

The Geni site shows him as the son of John Trevillian of Nettlecombe Court, 1507 and Maud Trevillian.^[1] However, these are his grandparents. ^[2]

1561 Marriage

John Trevelyan, son and heir of the last-mentioned John, married, in 1561, Urith daughter of Sir John Chichestor, of Raleigh in the county of Devon, knt. This John rebuilt the house at Nettlecombe.

John Trevelyan, of Nettlecomb, Devon, married Urith Chichester, sister of Sir Arthur Chichester, and by her had a 2nd son, George Trevelyan, who married Mary (Gage) Rowley, widow of John Rowley of Castleroe, co. Londonderry.

1619 High Sheriff

In 16 James I (1618-19) he was high-sheriff of the county.(1618/19)^[2]

1623 Death

He died April 1, 1623 in Somerset, England^[1] and was succeeded by his son and heir John Trevelyan, the seventh of that name^[2].
