Johann Christian Heinrich Trott was born in 1792 in Grimm, Russia, to parents Georg Heinrich Troll and Elisabeth Rutz. He was one of nine siblings. He married Anna Dorothea Jäger by 1813 and the couple had their first child the following year. Together they went on to have nine children, all born in Grimm:
