Biography

Father: Peter Cowe Trotter - a tea-taster Mother: Mary Cosser First of 14 children; came to Australia at age of 7 (1884?); educated at Fort Street; went on to be a school teacher - first posted to Guyra (on Northern New South Wales Tablelands); later appointed to teach at Fort Street where she became Mathematics Mistress - held this position until she married in 1906; Married Arthur Mayfield Merrington at Glebe Presbyterian Church on 18 April 1906; lived first in Moore Street, Drummoyne; then lived Altona Street, Abbotsford & later lived at Waruda Road, Huntleys Point - had to leave 1954-55 because of building of Gladesville bridge, moved to 3 Mayfield Avenue, Woolwich. Had 5 sons: James Mayfield - born 31 July 1909 in Drummoyne, contracted TB at age 20 & nursed at home; Ernest Joseph (14 June 1911), Arthur William (27 January 1914) & John Cossar ( 30 December 1917) all born while living at Altona Street, Abbotsford; David Northcroft (25 April 1920) born while living at Huntleys Point & died aged 10 on 22 January 1931 from septic pneumonia. Greatest interest - (Presbyterian) church. Favourite charity -Dorcas Society. Other interest - Hospitality Centre in Haymarket, George Street, Sydney.
