Thomas was born on 18 October 1724 to Thomas Trotter, magistrate of Edinburgh and Mary Lorimer.[1][2]
Thomas Trotter married Charlotte Knox on or after 24 Sep 1749 in Edinburgh, Edinburghshire, Scotland.[3]
Thomas Trotter died or was buried on 30 Jun 1804 in Edinburgh, Edinburghshire, Scotland.[4]
According to Bernard Burke in A Genealogical and Heraldic Dictionary of the Landed Gentry of Great Britain and Ireland (pp. 1543, 1544) (Available online), Thomas and Mary Trotter's sons, Thomas and William were both merchants and burgesses of Edinburgh. Burke also claimed that Thomas was elected to the town council and served as magistrate of Edinburgh for several years. He married Charlotte, daughter of David Knox, surgeon. This entry, however, was not sourced.
Although The Register of Marriages for the Parish of Edinburgh, 1701-1750 (pp. 327, 552)(Available online), seems to confirm some of Burke's information, there is no way of knowing from this entry whether this Thomas is the son of Thomas and Mary. No other sources were located to confirm or refute Burke's claims. While Burke's unsourced document cannot credibly be used, it may serve as a lead for further research.
