Coutts Trotter was born on 15 February, 1767 in Westville, Lincolnshire, England [1] the 4th and youngest son of Archibald Trotter and Jean Mowbray of Scotland. He attended Oxford University[2]and became a prominent London banker, the Senior partner of the banking house, Coutts and Co. He married Margaret Gordon 12 July 1802 in St Marys Church, Finchley, Herndon, Middlesex, England[3][4]The couple had three daughters between 1803 and 1809: Anne, Jane and Susannah.
Coutts Trotter was created First Baronet of Westville in 1821[5] He lived In Grosvenor Square, London and died there 1 September 1837. [6]
Uncertain Birth
The previous information gives his DOB on February 15, 1767 in Lincolnshire. However, a baptismal record has been found witht he correct parents listing his DOB as April 8, 1765, and his christening in Glasgow [7]. For now the existing date has been kept but flagged as uncertain. None of the linked sources apparently indicating his birth date appear to contain any evidence to support the 1767 date, so the 1765 date is more likely barring some other error.
