Biography

Mary was a daughter of Robert Troutbeck Esq. of Bridge Trafford, Cheshire.[1][2][3]

NB Brownbill in his paper on the Troutbeck family[4] did not record that Robert Troutbeck had a daughter named Mary.

The name of her mother is unknown.

Her year of birth is unknown and is estimated as c 1470.

She married, as his second wife, Edmund Denny.[1][2][3] His first wife Margaret Leigh had died 10 Sep 1487.[1][2]

According to the pedigree in the Visitation of Norfolk[1] there were 15 children:

  • [Sir] Thomas Denny
  • Michael and Gabriel Denny (twins)
  • Martha Denny (married Sir Wymond Carew)[2]
  • Edmund Denny (born 1501)
  • Anne Denny
  • Margaret [Mary] Denny (married Sir John Gates)[2][5]
  • [Sir] Anthony Denny[6]
  • Susan Denny
  • Ursula Denny
  • [Sir] Robert Denny
  • Catherine Denny
  • Elizabeth Denny (married John Daniel Esq.)[2]
  • Joyce Denny (married William Walsingham then Sir John Carey)[2][7]
  • Joan Denny

The article in 'The Topgrapher and Genealogist'[2] mentioned the following children of Edmund Denny and Mary Troutbeck: Sir Thomas, Sir Anthony, Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, and Joyce.

She died 29 Jun 1507 and was buried in St Benet's Paul's Wharf, City of London.[2] [The visitation pedigree[1] stated she died 29 Jun 1506, 22 Henry VIII. This appears to include two errors: it should be 22 Henry VII and not Henry VIII, and 29 Jun, 22 Henry VII, was 1507.]
