Biography

The following notes were taken in time-line form from the book "Troxel(l) Trails and Tails," supplemented with a few other sources. [1]

"12. David Troxell, (5) son of Peter and Julianna Catharina (Trauthager) Troxell, was born 27 July 1734 and was baptized at the Egypt Reformed Church at Egypt, PA. This was the first baptism performed by the Rev. John Philip Boehm during his service as Pastor of the church. Sponsors were Nicholas and Mary Margaretha Kern." [Troxel p. 14][2]

1754 Jan 12: Peter Troxel [David's father] mortgaged his house and property to Lynford Lardner for 294 pounds. "Records indicate that soon after this date Peter moved to Frederick County, MD., where he died in April or May of 1766 at the age of 75 years." David moved to Maryland when his father did. [Troxel pp. 6, 14].

1755 Jul 27: David came of age

c1756: David Troxel and Anna Elizabeth Saeger were married

c1757: birth of their first child Catherine. She was listed in her father's lease in Loudoun County, VA on April 1762, age 4. [Troxel 14]

1762 Apr 8: David Troxel leased 100 acres of land in Loudoun County, VA. David age 27, his wife Anna Elizabeth age 24, and their daughter Catherine age 4.

1766 Apr 16: Will of Peter Troxel written; proved 2 May 1766, named 8 children including David Troxel. [Troxel p. 6][3]

Bequests to: {wife} Julianah Catherinath; eight children: Peter, Daniel, David, John, Christian, Frederick, Julianah, Margaretha

1773, 1774, 1778, 1782: David Troxel on Tax List in Loudoun County, VA [Troxel p. 14]

1782 Apr 13: "David sold his lease to John Stifler and moved to Sullivan County, Tennessee." [Troxel p. 14] This is confirmed as the date of deed recorded on 10 Jun 1782 between David Troxel of Ldn to John Stiffler of Ldn. A/L __ acres adj Adam Counts. Wit: John Benier, Philip Hoff, George Harmmon. v. N:304 from Index to Loudoun Co VA Land Deed Books A-Z 1757-1800 by Particia B. Dunkin p. 169, via GoogleBooks.

1790 Federal Census lost for all Tennessee counties [Dollarhide]

c1791: His son David Jr came of age if born c1770

1800 Federal Census lost for all Tennessee counties [Dollarhide]

1810 Federal Census lost for all Tennessee counties except Rutherford. [Dollarhide]

1820 Federal Census lost for all East Tennessee counties including Sullivan and Washington. [Dollarhide]

1830 US Census: Sullivan Co., Tennessee, p. 110: David Troxwell 02002001001-00310001 [perhaps David Sr is the elderly man in this household. "He [David Sr] was listed living with David Jr in 1830." [Troxel p 15]

1833: "David filed application for pension as a Revolutionary War veteran and as an invalid" [Troxel p. 15] - [Note: Incorrect information. It was his son David Jr who filed for a Revolutionary War pension; it was denied. He fought in Indian wars after the Revolution.]

Troxell-311 and Troxel-161 appear to represent the same person because: while the dates on -311 are quite different, the son is clearly intended to be the same person. There are no sources listed on -311 to defend any of the data.

Troxell-206 and Troxell-90 appear to represent the same person because: These two profiles have the same birth date and location, a very similar name for the wife, and the same death location. The only difference appears to be the date of death, and one is an estimated date. If that is the only difference, it can be noted in the biography. They were previously marked as rejected, but there seems to be no reason for that rejection.
