Biography

Henry Truett was born about 1740 in Craven County North Carolina. He passed away in Wilson Co Tennessee between the 4th of January 1820, when he wrote his will, and the 29th of February 1820 when it was presented at Open Court so probate could begin.

When we see him on the 1790 Craven Co North Carolina Census he is the only Henry Truitt in the entire 1790 US Census. Is the Levy (Levi) Truett on the census related? Henry and Sarah named a son Levi, but aside from that, which is purely circumstantial, we don't have enough information to be able to say. However the Levi in the 1790 Craven Co Census did not go West to Tennessee with Henry, because Levi is in later Craven Co Census records and he left a will in Craven Co in 1812.

Toward the very end of the 1700s Henry and his sons made a momentous decision. Tennessee was opening up. The hostile Natives had moved farther west, and there were millions of acres of land ripe for the taking.

[2]By 1797, when the 1st settlers reached Wilson County, Elijah Truitt was counted among the earliest to settle along Barton's Creek. His father Henry Truett, and his brothers Henry Jr., and Levi were close behind. The country for miles around was thickly forested and filled with game, as well as large predators.

The Truett men are on Wilson County Tax Lists for the next several years. [3]
