Biography

Anna Maria Truter was born in 1777 and became a Cape Colony botanical artist. [1] She was the daughter of Petrus Johannes Truter [2](17 December 1747, Cape Town – 31 January 1825, Swellendam), an official in the East India Company, a Member of the Court of Justice, and a Commissioner of Police. Her mother was Johanna Ernestina Blankenbergh. She was baptised on 17 August 1777, and therefore the data field for her birth date has been set as prior to this date.

She married Sir John Barrow, 1st Baronet, who became second Secretary to the Admiralty in 1804, and was author of a travelogue published in 1801.
