Peachey, named for her paternal grandmother, was the youngest child of Charles Tryon and Jane Cuthbert. Her birth was registered in the 1st Quarter (Jul-Aug-Sep) of 1868 in Kensington, London.[1]
With her mother and siblings, Peachey was admitted to the Newington Workhouse on January 8, 1874.[2] She was transferred from Newington with her siblings but without her mother to St. George's Workhouse in Mint Street soon after, on January 13.[3] She was admitted again to the Newington Workhouse on April 23, 1874, evidently without any of her siblings.[4]
By the time of the 1881 census she was a resident (inmate is the word used) and scholar of Hanwell Central London District School[5] for pauper children, supported by the poor rates. Its best known resident, a decade later, was Charlie Chaplin, together with his brother Sidney. (NOTE: The school's registers are available at the London Metropolitan Archives.)
She married carter Herbert Greenway, son of Henry Thomas Greenway, in Westminster, 14 Apr 1896.[6]
