Biography

David was the third child, second son, of John Tryon and Mahala Jones.

He enlisted in the Indiana 8th Light Artillery Battery on 13 Apr 1863 and was mustered out on 27 Mar 1865. He then transferred to the Indiana 7th Light Artillery Battery on 27 Mar 1865 and was mustered out on 20 Jul 1865 at Indianapolis, IN.^[1]

He married Ellen Stuck on 18 Oct 1867 in Vigo County, Indiana.^[2] She had died by the time of the 1880 census when David, a widower, appeared in the household of his parents together with a son, Charles, aged 11. There is a marriage record for Charles naming his parents ^[3]. There is also a record of a child Andrew J. Tryon, son of David Tryon and Ellen Stuck ^[4].

This appears likely to be his memorial ^[5].
