Biography

Mina Jane was born in Indiana, the daughter of Daniel Tryon and Catherine Richey of Ohio. She had at least 7 siblings. She first married William Dayman on 1 Dec 1881^[1] and they were divorced in Aug 1882. Mina married second husband Champion Long in Nov 1882 and they had children Morton William, Esty Verde, and Zella. MIna died aged 74 of acute dilitation of the heart in 1931 ^[2]. She is buried at Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville, Noble County, Indiana, USA Plot: Section I Row 1 Circle 1.

Research Notes

Her birth and death date and parents' names are from her death certificate. It gives her and her parents' birth state as Ohio. Census records suggest she was born earlier. For example she is 7 in the July 1860 census and has two younger siblings aged 3 and 1. In 1870 she is 16 with siblings aged 13 and 11. Census records also differ on whether she was born in Ohio or Indiana but her parents are in Indiana by 1850 and appear to remain there the rest of their lives.
