CROCKER—TRYON.— In Rome, at the residence of the bride's father. Norman Tryon, on the 1st inst., by the Rev. Wm. A. Wurts, Henry M. Crocker, of Verona, to Eliza M. Tryon, formerly of Little Falls.[1]
Obituary
At 8 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of her son, Frank H. Crocker, 210 W. Bloomfield street, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Eliza Tryon Crocker, a well known and esteemed resident of this city.
Mrs. Crocker had been confined to her bed for the past two weeks but for some time previous had been in ill health.
Mary Eliza Tryon Crocker was the daughter of the late Norman and Mary Tibbits Tryon and was born at Little Falls on February 8, 1836. Her parents moved to this city in 1842 and she resided here until she married Henry M. Crocker in 1871. After a period of two years spent in Vernon she returned to Rome and has since resided here. Her husband died about 13 years ago.
She received her education in the Rome schools. She united with the First M. E. Church in 1852 and was a faithful church worker taking part in all the church activities. She was connected with the Sunday school of that church as a scholar and teacher, was a member of the adult Bible class and a visitor in the Home Department. She was an acitve member of the Ladies Aid Society and of the Foreign Missions Society. She served as recording secretary for the Home Mission Society for ten years and as corresponding secretary for the Women's Chrisitan Temperance Union for 29 years.
One son, Frank H. Crocker, with whom she made her home, survives. Also two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ella Watson of New York City, and Mrs. Cora Lodewick of Saratoga Springs. Mrs. Crocker was a kind and loving Christian woman and had a legion of friends who will mourn her passing.[2]
