Genealogical Interests
Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating with anyone who shares the same genealogical or historical interests.
Here is my family tree.
My primary interest is the history of the Tryon family of America and of England. It is something I work on almost daily and am currently the primary researcher on WikiTree of this family. I have quite a few collaborators in this pursuit, some of whom document the family on other sites such as FamilySearch, Ancestry, and their own personal sites. I am also active in genetic genealogy and administer the Tryon Group Project at Family Tree DNA. It is a Y-DNA project with 14 male Tryon members with BigY-700 profiles clearly indicating William Tryon of Wethersfield is our common ancestor with documented genetic lineages through 4 of his sons. My background makes me a bit of a skeptic and a stickler for documentation, even for circumstantial evidence which is often all we've got in genealogy.
Family Tree of Michael Tryon
Biography
I was born in Los Angeles, California and have lived in Southern California most of my life. My roots on my mother's side are Scottish/Irish/English and on my fathers side are English/German/Bohemian. I was raised all over the place and settled in San Diego where I went to college. I have a PhD in Marine Geology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography and worked there as a Research Scientist in marine hydrogeology through to my retirement.
Over the years I have indulged myself in many pursuits. I flew hang gliders for nearly 30 years, competing in local, national, and international competitions and setting a few local records. I've also climbed some pretty tall mountains, been to some pretty deep parts of the ocean in a variety of submarines (Alvin, Nautile, etc.), and worked and played in Antarctica, Alaska, Japan, Turkey, and a bunch of other places.
I currently live in Encinitas, on the coast just north of San Diego, with my wife and two children, in a house I designed and spend an inordinate amount of time maintaining and improving.
Oh, and I'm also interested in genealogy (it's my mother's fault). See Tryon Family in England, Tryon Family in America, and Tryon DNA Projects and Resources for information on the Tryon family.
