Leander was baptized, together with two brothers and a sister, in Stamford, Connecticut 29 Jan 1817.[1] His age or date of birth is not recorded, but his father underwent adult baptism the week before, and his mother (unnamed) is recorded as being baptized "on her sickbed" in 1814. Given that he married for the first time in 1829, he would probably have been born between 1800 - 1809.
The family relocated to New Jersey in 1825.[2]
Leander married Harriet Baldwin, daughter of David Baldwin, 6 Aug 1829 in Morris County, New Jersey.[3][4] The marriage record gives the name apparently as W. Leander Tryon (though this could be Mr. Leander Tryon). The record says the marriage took place in Livingston and was conducted by Joseph M. Ogden, minister.
Leander married Sarah Halsey, as his second wife, 12 Jan 1844 in the South Street Presbyterian Church, Morristown, Morris, New Jersey.[5][6]
