Biography

Her birth date and place are contained in her passport application; passport issued 11 Apr 1872.[1]

Reputed to be the daughter of William Tryon and wife Jane Phillips; William Tryon reputed to be the son of Isaac Tryon. The claimant Ida Elliot (Selleck) Snively was granddaughter of William Tryon through his daughter Ruth Margaret (Tryon) Selleck and great granddaughter of Isaac Tryon, but documentary evidence has yet to be found.[2]

Married Alfred De Forrest Selleck in Brooklyn, New York 23 June 1840.[3] Children:

Mary Louisa, died 9 Sep 1842 aged 1 year, 1 month, 11 days.[4][5]

She seems to have been an inveterate traveller. In 1860 she and two daughters Charlotte and Ida entered the United States aboard the Arago; she is listed as "merchant".[6] In 1870 she is listed as entering the United States with daughters Charlotte and Ida aboard the Scotia (occupation: none).[7] Again in 1872 she entered the US with her daughters Charlotte and Ida, aboard the Scotia.[8]

She died on the 26th of April in Paris.[9] "Paris 26th Ruth Margaret w Alfred D Selleck".

Her will was probated on 21 May 1880 in New York, New York, her husband Alfred being sole executor and there being as heirs only her husband, their daughter Charlotte Gregory Selleck and their daughter Ida Elliot Selleck.[10]
