Biography

Charles was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut as the son of Abijah Tryon and his wife Eunice Francis.^[1] He was baptized November 20, 1774.^[2]

Research Notes

The following is retained as reported in TFA, however, it is argued that this Charles did not marry Martha Churchill:

CHARLES TRYON 4.52f, third son of Abijah Tryon 3.9c and Eunice (Francis) Tryon, was born at Wethersfield, Conn., Nov. 20, 1774 (?). He married Martha Churchill 5.79a, daughter of Ruth (Tryon) Churchill 4.29e and William Churchill, on Mar. 14, 1791. She was born at Farmington, Conn., Oct. 25, 1769.^[3]

Reason for assuming he did not marry Martha Churchill -- her marriage record specifies that she married Charles Tryon Jr. This would only have been used of a son of another Charles Tryon, not a son of Abijah named Charles.

Many family trees list wife as Sarah Smith. Wife is unlikely to be Sarah Smith as marriage records list groom as "Charles Tryon Jr." and he wouldn't have been called Jr. because his father did not have the same name.

There is an 1805 marriage record for a Charles Tryon and Elizabeth Brown that could be this Charles or Charles Tryon ^[4]. There is another to Sabi Brown in 1824 ^[5].
