Biography

Ira was born in 1856, son of George Fredrick Handel Tryon and Jane Amelia Downs. His mother died shortly after he was born and he appears to have been raised in relatives' homes. He married Electa Begun in 1885 and they had children Charles, Loula, George, Ruth, and Grace. He passed away in 1950.

Ira B. Tryon, Woodstock's Oldest Resident Dies In Home
Son Of Hebron Pioneers Dies At Age Of 94
Grandmother Settled In County In 1836
Ira B. Tryon, 94, Woodstock's oldest resident died at his home, 451 W. Judd this morning. He had been in ill health for two weeks.
He was born in Hebron July 6, 1856, the son of George and Jane Downs Tryon, pioneers of the region.
He attended the Hebron schools and was graduated from the Western School of Telegraphy, Janesville, in 1878. As a telegraph operator he was in many locations but came to Woodstock in 1902 with his family and to work for the Oliver Typewriter company. He was employed by that company for 21 years.
He married Electa Begun on Feb. 18, 1886, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage this year.
Three Children Survive
Two sons, Charles L. and George L. Tryon, both Woodstock, and one daughter, Grayce Albrecht, also Woodstock, survive him. Also there are eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one sister. One of his daughters, Mrs. Blanche (Bonnie) Cairns died only a few months ago.
Mr. Tryon was the last remaining grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Bela Tryon who settled in Hebron in 1836. Mrs. Tryon was the first white woman to ever reside in Hebron township and gave it its name from an old hymn which she particularly liked.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p. m. in the Merwin funeral home with the Rev. C. C. officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery.
