Biography

Esther was born about 1770 (estimate). She was the daughter of Jonathan Tubbs and wife Rhoda (last name unknown)[1]

Esther married Jonathan Hogoboom, aka Hugoboom.[2] He may have passed away before the will of her father was probated in 1816.[3]

Jonathan and Esther had nine children - Hosea, Magdaleny, Rhoda, Hannah, James, Anna, Esther, Jonathan, and Asa.[4]

She received land from her father's estate in Sharon, Schoharie, New York.

She married James Hugoboom, who may have been the brother of Jonathan.

Esther, listed as wife of James Hoguboom, purchased land with her children in Hanover, Chautauqua county, New York from Joseph and Rebeckah Brownell in 1820. The deed was recorded in Chautauqua county on 16 Dec 1820.[5]

On 01 Nov 1828, Esther and her children sold the Hanover land in Chautauqua county to Hicks Brownell.[6] That deed listed the husbands and wives of her married daughters and sons: Hosea married Sally. Magdalany "Lany" married Jesse Hoyt. Rhoda married Jonathan Keyser. Anna married Ethan Cross. Hannah married Isaac Cross. James, Jonathan, Asa, and Esther did not have spouses listed so were either unmarried at that point or their spouses did not participate in the land sale.

James Hoguboom was living in Perrysburg, Cattaraugus, New York in 1830. It is not clear if this was the household of James, the second husband of Esther, or her son James Hugoboom. However, the elderly couple in the household, both aged 60-70, may have been Esther and her husband James.[7]

Esther's date of death is currently unknown but may be in or after 1830.
