Biography

Research Notes

Newchurch and Whalley is actually in Lancashire.

As noted on her profile, Hester Matilda was not the daughter of Robert and Martha.

If James was born in Norwich, his mother's maiden name was Crome.[1] Robert Denton Tuck married Ann Crome at Norwich in 1847.[2]

At the 1861 census Robert Denton Tuck was a Baker and Confectioner.[3] James went on to be a Miller (see his profile for the details), which is good circumstantial evidence for the relationship between these two profiles.

There was a Robert Tuck from Norfolk who married a Martha and lived in Lancashire. At the 1881 census he lived in Newchurch With Bacup and gave his birth place as Barney, Norfolk. The five oldest of their six daughters were also born in Barney. Martha was born in Tharrington, Essex. She was 52 and Robert was 58.[4]

At the 1841 census a fifteen year old Robert Tuck was living in Barney with Thomas and Mary Tuck, both aged 60, James Tuck 30, Mary Ann Tuck 10, and Jacob Page 3.[5] Relationships were not recorded in 1841, but he may have been the son of Thomas and Mary.

Robert Tuck married Martha Bangay at Barney in 1852. His father was Thomas, hers was Richard.[6]

The birth place for Martha recorded at the 1881 census appears to be an error. In 1851 the twenty year old Martha was living with her father Richard in Sharrington, Norfolk, and that was also her birth place.[7]

Peter, clearly the Robert who married Martha was not the father of James or Hester. I'll leave it to you to decide which version of Robert you want this profile to be.
