BAPTISM 20 JAN 1756

BURIED 12 JAN 1836. Bridport Church Yard Note: Buried Grave 136 with wife Mary and daughters Elizabeth and Harriet and son Henry.

OCCUPATION Hemp Merchant.

WILL Note: Will at PRO. Executors Richard Tucker, William cleeves Tucker and William Pearce Stanley, sons and son in law. Assets include lands, messauges, mills, tenements and herdiments including a house at Tuckenhay. 1837 Note: This is the last will and testement of RICHARD TUCKER the elder of Bridport in the county of Dorset merchant made and published this the twenty eight day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine xxxxxx xxx the following that is to say first I give and bequeath all my household goods and furniture in the dwellinghouse at TUCKENHAY Devon now in the occupation of my son RICHARD TUCKER and others and also my wearing apparel of every sort and kind and my right to or share in the value of the Bay Horse ?? used in the trade carried on by me at TUCKENHAY aforesaid into and equally between my two sons the said RICHARD TUCKER and WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER and I will and direct that an inventory of my stock in trade by my executors in trust hereinafter valued within the space of one month next after my decease and I give devise and bequeath unto the said RICHARDTUCKERand WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKERr and unto WILLIAM PEARCE STANLEY of the City of EXETER a Commander in his Majesty’s Navy all my messauges mills lands tenements? and xx xx hereditaments both freehold and leasehold and also all my stock in trade of every sort and description and all my household goods and furniture and implements of household (except aforesaid) book and other debts sum and sums of money due and owing to me at the date of my decease securities for money and all other my Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind or description so ever to hold to thxxx the said RICHARD TUCKER, WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER and WILLIAM PEARCE STANLEY their heirs executors admons and axxxx respectively upon trust that they the said RICHARD TUCKER, WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER and WILLIAM PEARCE STANLEY and the survivors or survivor of there so and shall sell and dispose of all and singular my son’s xxxxxxx mills lands tenements and hereditaments stock in trade household goods and furniture and other my estates and effects to the best advantage and for the most money and best price that can be gotten ?? and most for the same and ensure the whole thereof into money and collect in all such book and other debts as shall be due to me in partnership or otherwise at the time of my decease and as well specially? as simple xxxxst and by and out of the monies to arrive from such sale or sales of my said Estate and Effects as aforesaid and by collecting in such debts and sums as aforesaid upon trust that my said trustees so and shall in the first place pay and discharge all such debts and sums of money as shall be lawfully due and owing by me to any person whatsoever at the time of my decease and also my funeral and testamentary expenses and after payment thereof upon trust to xxxxx to xxx pay unto each and every of my eight children the said RICHARD TUCKER and WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER, HARRIET TUCKER, SUSAN TUCKER, SARAH TUCKER, ELIZA TUCKER, ANNA TUCKER and FRANCES TUCKER the legacy or sum of two hundred pounds for their and every of their own absolute use and benefit and after payment thereof upon trust to xxxxx to pay and divide the residue and remainder of the said monies into and equally between all my children viz my said eight children and my daughter MARY the wife of the said WILLIAM PEARCE STANLEY free and independent of the debts xxxxxx or xxxxxxxxxx of the respective husbands of my said daughters and I so hereby order? and direct that the receipts or receipt of my said trustees and their survivor of them her? or his heirs exors? and admons shall be a good and sufficient discharge and discharges to the purchaser or purchasers of all or any part of my said estate and effects his her and their respective heirs exors admons and assignees for so much of the said purchased money as shall be therein exproxxxx and acknowledged to be wrxxxx and such purchaser or purchasers his her or their respective heirs exors admons and assignees shall not afterwards be obliged to xxx to the application of such purchase money or be answerable or accountable for any loss? and application or nonapplication thereof of any part thereof provided always and my will is and I do hereby order and direct that the part of my property at ASHPRINGTON and CORNWORTHY Devon consisting of freehold and leasehold lands houses mills and machinery shall not be sold or disposed of by my said trustees unless with the wish and by the consent and xxxxxxxx of my said two sons the said RICHARD TUCKER and WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER before the expiration of three years from the time of my decease and that in the ------- 3rd line---- shall be madeake effect I do hereby further direct that my said trustees do demand and pay rent for and in respect of the said property by equal half yearly payments into each of my said nine children and their respective exors admons and assignees noteably and in proportion to the xxxxxx of their respective txxxx or shares or sums of money hxxx before by me given or xxxx to be paid to them respectively after the date of one hundred and twenty five pounds per annum provided always nevertheless? and I do hereby further will order and direct that my said trustees do? and shall at a convenient tme before the expiration of the three years xxx a proper appraisement and valuation to be made of my said freehold and leasehold lands house mills and machinery at ASHPRINGTON and CORNWORTHY aforesaid by two competent? persons or surveyors to be thoxx or appointed one by my said daughters and the other by my said sons the said RICHARD TUCKER and WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER and if such appraisemnet or valuation shall amount to or exceedd the sum of two thousand and five hundred pounds that they my said trustees do an shall and are hereby authorized and empowered by me so to do make an offer of my said freehold lands, leasehold lands houses mills and machinery unto my said two sons RICHARD TUCKER and WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER at such appraisment or valuation as aforesaid and xxxx my said two sons wholly signify? xxxxxfully? under their hands their wish to xxxx the xxxx within three months after submitting? appraisment or valuation and such offer as aforesaid that they my sons, trustees their heirs exors or admons do and shall by such good and sufficient rouxxxxx assurances and other lawful ways and means (of the law at the disposal)? of the said RICHARD TUCKER and WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER shall advise will and sufficiently rowxx assign assure and transfer such freehold and leasehold lands houses mills and machinery as aforesaid as they my said two sons shall agree to accept at such appraisment or valuation as aforesaid into their? my said two sons RICHARD TUCKER and WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER their heirs admons and assignees respectively provided? always and I do hereby further will and direct that in case the said two surveyors shall not agree as to the value of the said freehold and leasehold lands houses mills and machinery then the medxx of the difference of such their different valuations shall be taken or otherwise that it be decided? by xxxxxx lots which valuations is to be taken and in case my said two sons shall refuse to accept the said freehold and leasehold lands houses mills and machinery at such appraisment or valuation as aforesaid by watxxx xxox their houses and in xxxxx aforesaid I do hereby will order and direct that they my said trustees do and shall sell and dispose of the property by public and lastly I make? xxxxx and appoint theat the said RICHARD TUCKER, WILLIAM CLEEVES TUCKER and WILLIAM PEARCE TUCKER to be EXECUTORS of my will in trust and for the purpose aforesaid and evoking all former wills by me at any time xxxx made and do hereby authorize and empower through my said trustees to deduct whxx and reimburse all such costs charges and expenses as they or other of them shall sustain or be put unto in the xxxxxx of the trusts hereby thexx xxpose and so direct that the owner??
