Cruelty to Animals.-George Hill was yesterday charged before the bench with beating and cruelly ill using a horse, the property of John Tucker, at West Maitland, on 31st July, and John Tucker was charged with aiding and abetting him in the same. The witnesses called were Thomas Kerrigan, Joseph Wheeler, James Ewan, and Richard Kennedy. From the evi- dence it appeared that Hill knocked the horse down, and.then beat it violently on the head and nose, whilst John Tucker, the proprietor, stood by without inter- fering, and said, " Give it to him." The bench fined each of the parties 40s., and 4s. Gd. costs.

I have a death certificate for the above who died at Wingen on 6 October 1869. The place of burial is given as East Maitland on 8 October 1869. I have not been able to find a burial for him despite again checking today the computerised printout put out by Maitland Council which lists thousands of burial within the Maitland area. Can someone help me with this. I have checked Pat May's site but can not find the relevant cemetery there. His in-laws, John and Mary Blinkhorn are listed at Campbells Hill cemetery but no mention of John anywhere. thanks in advance Sandra in Maryborough Qld www.satcom.net.au/mdfhs.
