Biography

Mary Ann Coleman did not go with Reason Tucker, whom she had married in Rock Island, IL on 9 March 1837,[2] when he decided to make the overland journey to Oregon. She had a 6 year old, a 4 year old and a 2 year old child and was 6 months pregnant at the time he left in April, giving birth to William B. Tucker in July of 1846. Reason and his three older sons who made the journey reached Johnson's ranch, the first settlement on the west side of the Sierras and settled in for the winter, barely escaping the snow that trapped the Donner Party. They received news of the plight of the Donner Party on January 17 and Reason and one of his sons, George were part of the rescue party which set out on February 4, 1847. It is unlikely that Mary Ann received news of her husband during this time and a St. Louis paper published an article indicating they thought the party from Rock Island had perished (the article can be found in the Iowa Old Press) She married Cullin C. Chamberlain in 1847 only to discover that Reason was still alive. She filed for divorce from Reason on May 16, 1848 citing abuse and wilful desertion. Following the divorce from Reason she remarried Cullin Chamberlain on 30 September 1849 in Muscatine County, IA.

Tucker-12345 and Tucker-5172 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles represent the same Reason "Rezin" Penelope Tucker with first & second wives. They should be merged into the lowest profile id number.
