Mary Tucker was called "Pops" or "Aunt Pops" by some.
Mary Tucker married Robert Linzy Williams. On her son, John's, delayed birth certificate, Mary is listed as 1/16 Choctaw, born in Arkansas. Her age at the time of John's birth in 1876 was 28 years old. This would give her an approximate birth date of 1848. Two different 1900 census records list her birth date as February, 1851.
Mary had eleven children, but only three lived to be married. She was the daughter of double first cousins. The Glenn/Tucker clan was quite large and many of them traveled together into wilderness areas. There weren't many other families in the remote regions where they sometimes lived so there were quite a few intermarriages among the two families.
Mary Tucker had a kind disposition. One day she saw a mouse and told it, "You had better hide before the cat finds you." Mary was a good seamstress and made the wedding dress for her son's bride. She liked to tell jokes and scary stories. Her granddaughter, Allie (Williams) Grantham, took after her in that way.[1]
