Disputed Origins

Some Internet sources identify John Tuller as a son of William Tuller (b. Holland) and Margaret (Donaldson) Tuller (b. N.Y.)[1], apparently referring to William Teller and Margaret Duncanson.

There is no basis for associating him with these people as parents. John Tuller's origins are unknown; Jacobus identified John Tuller as "of unknown antecedents."[2]

Biography

John Tuller was married to Elizabeth (Case) Lewis, widow of Joseph Lewis, in Simsbury, Connecticut, in about 1684.[2]

By her he fathered Sara, Wm, Mary, Jacob, Samuel and Mehitable "Mabel" Tuller. After her passing he married again, to Hannah Slowman on July 9, 1719 in Simsbury. Served in King Philip's War.

Spouse: Elizabeth Case Tuller (1656 - 1718)

Children: Sarah Tuller Moses (1685 - 1712)* Samuel Tuller (1689 - 1720)* Jacob Tuller (1694 - 1746)* Mehitable Tuller Chidester (1698 - 1761)*

Burial: Hop Meadow Cemetery, also known as Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury Hartford County Connecticut, USA [1]

In October 1743, Jacob Tullar, administrator on the estate of John Tullar, late of Symsbury, deceased petitioned the Hartford Assembly to sell so much of his lands to pay for his debts.[3]

Kennan Family Genealogy book lists the family with last name spelled as Tullar
Johannes Teller is not the same person as John Tuller.

John should be disconnected from parents Teller-12 and Duncanson-20. [EDITED: I have disconnected him from those parents.]

I've done some more searching (in the periodical literature indexed in AmericanAncestors.org) and I find that John Tuller's parents (and other origins) are not known.

This is from Donald Lines Jacobus, “John Lewis of New London, Conn.; Joseph Lewis of Simsbury, Conn.,” American Genealogist 37[1961]:123-28: "Joseph Lewis, whatever his origin, died at Simsbury, Conn., (before 2 Sept.) 1680; married at Windsor, Conn., 30 Apr. 1674, Elizabeth Case, born about 1658, died at Simsbury 9 Oct. 1718, daughter of John and Sarah (Spencer) Case of Windsor and Simsbury. She married second, about 1684, John Tuller, of unknown antecedents, who survived her, married again, and died at Simsbury, very old, before 28 Jan. 1741/2."

I believe that Tuller-18 has been assigned to the wrong parents. Wiliam Teller and Margaret Duncanson of Albany did not simultaneously raise a family of Tuller children in Simsbury.

I tried some quick searches. The earliest record I noticed in the Barbour Collection for the Tullers of Simsbury was the birth of this man's son William in 1687.

Tuller-18 and Tuller-41 appear to represent the same person because: Hello, In efforts to link John Tuller to his father William, I found both these profiles - and also one for Johannes Teller, son of William, who I believe is the same person as this John Tuller. A clean-up of several steps begins! Thank you for your help, Deirdre (any questions, please contact me)

Tullar-23 and Tuller-18 appear to represent the same person because: Both have matching sources. Merges also proposed for identical wife and one matching child.
