Sister M. Emiline Tuma
Sister M. Emiline Tuma (Emma Tuma), School Sister of Notre Dame, died at the age of 93, on Saturday evening, Aug. 23, at Good Counsel Convent, in Mankato.
Born at Lonsdale, on Oct. 30, 1909, Sister M. Emiline was a daughter of Thomas and Rose (Skluzacek) Tuma. She entered the Order of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, in Mankato, in 1928, and took First Vows, in 1933. She taught school in Minnesota, and in North and South Dakota, for almost 50 years, primarily in the primary grades. Following her years in the classrooms, she did some tutoring, before retiring at Good Counsel, in 1988. Over those years, she earned a B.A. degree in history, from the College of St. Catherine, in St. Paul.
Sister M. Emiline is survived by a brother, Jerry Tuma, of Faribault; her sisters-in-law, Ludmilla Tuma, Northfield, and Emma Tuma, Lonsdale; nieces and nephews; and her Sisters in Community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m., at Good Counsel Chapel.
Visitation was at the chapel on Tuesday, and Vespers were at 7 p.m. Visitation was also on Wednesday, for one hour prior to the funeral services.
