"Jerry V. Tuma was born March 26, 1915, on the family farm at Lonsdale, Minnesota to Thomas and Rose (Skluzacek) Tuma. He was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale and also attended school there. After his education he farmed on the family farm for his mother. He married Bessie Barta on August 22, 1939, at Immaculate Conception. After marriage they farmed until 1972 when they moved to Faribault. Jerry worked at the Faribault Manor as custodian for 14 years and after his retirement he helped Bessie at Erickson's Furniture Store. In 2001 they moved to Northfield. Jerry was a member of the Church of St. Dominic, the Knights of Columbus in Faribault and the Catholic Workman. He is a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. He enjoyed bird watching, visiting with people, and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bessie; 3 daughters: Bernice and husband Lawrence Rezac of Webster, Carol and husband Vern Hrdlicka of LeCenter, Karen Simonette & friend Patrick Shannon of Edina; 11 grandchildren: Larry (Sandy) Rezac, Fred (Theresa) Rezac, Barb (Tom) McCabe, Beverly (Joe) Pumper, Jennifer Rezac, Suzie (Glenn) Brehmer, Carrie Holicky, Lloyd Hrdlicka, Kurt Simonette, Kim (Peter) Johansson, Kyle (Britt) Simonette; 28 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law Emma Tuma of Lonsdale; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald; 2 grandsons: Steven and Martin Rezac; 3 sisters: Mary Sirek, Christine Svoboda, and Sister Emiline Tuma; and 4 brothers Joe, John, Tom and Emil.
Jerry passed away Thursday morning, April 28, 2005 at the Northfield Care Center at the age of 90.
