Biography

Owned a dry cleaning business in the booming years of Picher, Oklahoma. Worked many years at the BF Goodrich plant in Miami, OK as a guard. Grandpa was a very tall man and he also suffered from scoliosis of the spine. He had red hair and freckles all over his visible body. He seemed gruff to his grandchildren, but we were not afraid of him. He drove a Thunderbird and would never let us eat anything while we were in the car.

Grandpa and his sister, Margie, used to write hymns and had a few published. I would love to get ahold of any of these, as I have never heard them. As a young man, Carl wrote many articles and advertisements and even ran a newspaper that was a forerunner of the Miami New-Record in Miami, Oklahoma. He was smart and could memorize numbers easily. When he worked as a guard at the B.F. Goodrich plant he had the badge numbers of all the employees memorized. They would call him up and ask, "Carl, what is my badge number?" and he would know off the top of his head.
